Team of the first day… AS Mégrine turns the tables in Gabès

Trailing in the match, AS Mégrine overturned Avenir Sportif de Gabès thanks to a brace from Ghazi Mbarek. This away victory demonstrates the character of the team managed by Fathi Haj Ismaïl and makes Mégrine one of the revelations of this first matchday of Ligue 2.

On the opening day of the Ligue 2 championship, the surprise lay not only in the result, but also in the way that the Association Sportive de Mégrine turned the situation around on a difficult pitch, against Avenir Sportif de Gabès, freshly relegated from Ligue 1.

Mégrine approached this match knowing the task would be difficult. In Gabès, space is scarce and their opponent has considerable experience in this type of confrontation, with the added advantage of playing at home and in front of a crowd.

Despite conceding the opening goal, ASM lost neither their balance nor their character. They continued to play and search for solutions, right up until the turning point of the match.

Ghazi Mbarek was the man of the comeback.

His brace away from home completely changed the game and gave Mégrine three precious points to start the season. Above all, it revealed a team capable of overcoming difficult moments and not giving up when the score is against them.

This victory in Gabès is therefore not just about the three points. It also testifies to the character shown by the group.

Behind this collective strength is the coach. Fathi Haj Ismailwho knew how to guide his team calmly, especially after conceding the goal. A coach's worth isn't measured solely when his team is leading, but also when they're behind and he has to restore his players' mental and tactical balance.

Mégrine thus sends an initial message:

"We are not here just to participate."

Winning away against a team just relegated from Ligue 1, on a difficult pitch, places Association Sportive de Mégrine among the teams that made the biggest mark on this opening day.

As for Ghazi Mbarek, he chose the best way to stand out: a brace away from home and three points for his team.

If we had to name the team that made the strongest impression during this opening match of the championship, The Mégrine Sports Association deserves the title of team of the first day.

A successful start and a comeback that suggest this team could have a say this season.
